A real vision is required not some short term policy scraped together to garner votes at the next election or approaches designed with a particular electoral constituency or the bottom line in mind.
For example the Banaff Cadet Camp, a national institution which brings a real mix Canadian youth together from across Canada could be expanded to become an international cadet camp. Such a project is beyond the resources of the Army Cadet League of Canada but falls within the scope of promoting Canadian values aboard. Inter departmental jealousy must not step in the way of innovation. Moreover why don't companies making millions or billions spend a few dollars to bring some students not only to the Banff Cadet Camp but to educational opportunities in Canada. What is done today is so miniscule as to almost be off the radar screen.
Canadians are concerned and would welcome information about Zimbabwe, Fiji, Angola, Madagascar or the Canadian companies in the Congo if someone would speak out on these issues giving voters an opportunity to make informed choices not left in ignorance about party policies. Government in Canada is less transparent than it should be and I remain a doubting Thomas about the value of this exercise except as a feel good leadin to the next election.
