Question 10: Values and Culture

Are values such as human rights, democracy, respect for diversity and gender equality ones that Canada should continue to advocate in all parts of the world? If so, what are the best ways of doing this?

Answer:
Yes. By always speaking up for them. By never apologizing for them. By never compromising them in our dealings with other countries or at home. In particular, by banning sales of military equipment or "dual use" equipment to countries known as human rights violators and to countries prone to military adventurism. Similarly, by discouraging economic investments in such countries where these investments are seen to strengthen the capacity or longevity of oppressive governments.
