| Where? Almost everywhere in Africa; Myanmar/Burma; Chechnya; Kashmir; Iran, North Korea; Columbia. I assume that we have diplomatic representation with the governments in most of these countries. We cannot play a role everywhere, but in so far as every diplomatic office is serving under a Canadian policy for the region, that policy should be directing them to resolving conflict, promoting democracy and the betterment of life for ordinary people. Our priority in places like Myanmar, the Sudan or Columbia should be the promotion of the interest ordinary Canadians have in making the world healthy and secure for everyone before promoting the interest of a particular company or other idiological or political interest. We should expand our foreign aid commitment to .7% of GDP to enhance our capacity to make a difference for these peoples. |
