I do not feel we have a three pillar approach, unless the three pillars are profit, profit and profit. Most Canadians value our health care system, public education, public stewardship of the environment, public ownership of water, the CBC and other public cultural institutions, etc, and yet our government continues not only to enter into trade agreements that threaten these values, they promote the interests of Canadian companies involved abroad in the privitization of these same resources in other countries. We call ouselves peace keepers, but not only do we participate in military alliances, we are a major exporter of military related goods. Security cannot be achieved by fueling war, particularly in this world of terrible weapons. Of course we must have trade, but when profit trumps everything, our security and values are both threatened. |
