The initiative is appealing in general, but its interpretation is very open.
For exaple, the 3rd paragraph in the "The Canada-U.S. relationship" section. I agree completely with the 'protect values that we hold in common', but I am concerned that those values which we do not hold in common may be in jeopardy. If the US is truly our 'friend', then it is extremely important that we be able to have a (possibly) conflicting foreign policy without facing threats of retaliation, either implicit or explicit.
As for the "recent global changes", we must be careful not to be too reactionary. Changes are continual, trade or US security issues today should not be dictaing long term policy issues for the (still) sovereign Canada.
Promoting our values abroad is not as important as having decent values in the first place.
