Absolutely! It is critical for our security to be aware of how we are perceived by others and for us to be aware of their characteristics, in order to have influence. It seems that the world's superpowers rarely ask how they are perceived in the world, rather, they prefer to focus their efforts on defending themselves from the disenchanted...
By the same token, understanding the character of the faiths not our own recognizes that it is faith that has informed our collective values and influenced our society. Knowledge of others will lead to understanding, tolerance and acceptance on all sides. Individuals, whose faith is strong, need not be threatened by knowing about others.
