Question 3: The 1995 Policy Review and SinceCanada is a member of many international organizations, including the G8, NATO, the Commonwealth, La Francophonie, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Arctic Council. Should our participation in any of these be strengthened, or adjusted?

Assuming a more active role in Nato would be beneficial for Canada as well as other countries. The tragedies in Kosovo and Rwanda have already shown that the UN will not take action in many situations that require international intervention. Presently however, Canada is not in a position to assume a greater role however. But NATO is a military alliance and Canada's military is currently unable to provide a significant contribution. Thus, unless we increase our armed forces Canada has no business leading in organizations such as NATO.
