Question 3: The 1995 Policy Review and SinceCanada is a member of many international organizations, including the G8, NATO, the Commonwealth, La Francophonie, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Arctic Council. Should our participation in any of these be strengthened, or adjusted?

Canada's participation should be based on considerations of our relationship with the United States, the need for connections to global business corporations and the necessity of developing alternate conflict resolution mechanisms.
Canada should emphasize participation in those organizations in which the Americans, the UK. the European Community, China, and Japan are less involved so that Canada becomes a valuable agent to the US, world corporations, and potential belligerents in these forums that attract less or almost no attention in the world community. |
