I am very pleased to have heard that Canada has submitted a compromise proposal (at the UN) to the involved parties regarding the Iraqi problem. Of course, it will amount to nothing much, since we do no longer have any weight in the world. (This is because we do not try to implicate ourselves
enough in world affairs - i think we should, of course, by taking a course which is consistent with our own values,
and not the values of our neighbours our allies).
It is also because of the fact that our military and international aid are underfended. Of course, the budget
helped a bit on both issues, but we are still well behind the 0.7% GNP mark (recommended by the UN) regarding international aid (I think we will be at 0.25%), and the 800 million dollars
which was announced for the military only means we can now sustain our current operations.
I think also Canada should adopt an attitude which is between the Americans and the European Union in our internal
and international affairs. Currently living in Europe makes me understand how much Canada is great.
The Europeans are much too socialist, and even though their crimes rates are low (in comparison to the US), the crimes are simply horrible (Attacking trucks which transport money using Bazookas is something i never even thought possible, also when police are scared of going in certain cities, there is a serious problem, the phenomenon of gang rape and torture is also present(!!), which is something i consider unbelievable in civilized society!). Also because of socialist laws, it is almost impossible for a small company to be profitable in some parts of Europe.
The Americans, on the hand, is the exact opposite, there is no socialism at all, where the poor always get even poorer and they have to fend for themselves, while the rich get even richer. By having a minimal social infrastructure, the Americans would notice that their crime rate would
certainly fall.
I think we are very lucky to have Canada!!
